Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are designed to manage surface water runoff in a way that mimics natural drainage processes. Their purpose is to control runoff rates and volumes, reduce flood risk, improve water quality, and support environmental sustainability within new and existing developments.
SuDS manages rainfall close to where it falls, using a combination of measures such as permeable paving, swales, attenuation basins, ponds, infiltration systems, and flow control structures.
The SuDS principles can be applied to all types of developments (e.g. residential development, solar farm, wind farm).
The SuDS is designed in accordance with the Greater Dublin Strategic Drainage Study (GDSDS) and CIRIA SuDS Manual (C753).
